High Water Response Vehicle
On October 2, crews began training on the new high water response vehicle (well new to us). The 5 ton vehicle is a military surplus vehicle that was re purposed and modified to enhance response in the Harris County ESD 17 response area. The unit is assigned as Heavy Utility Truck (HUT) 800. The vehicle is 6 wheel drive and capable of traversing through areas of high water that still may be to shallow to deploy a rescue boat. The truck was modified by General Truck Body to better suit the needs of a municipal fire dept. The vehicle has additional lighting, a wheel chair ramp and a ladder attached to it to assist our citizens in getting in and out of the vehicle. We are excited to have this piece of equipment added to our fleet.
Rehab 80
LYFD has taken delivery of a new Rehab Vehicle to assist our department while on extended incidents. During incidents, such as Structure Fires, HAZMAT response, Grass fires or any other scene where we will be working for extended periods of time, it is important that we have adequate hydration, a place to get out of the elements and somewhere to use a latrine. This vehicle is equipped with a portable latrine, a interior cabin which is climate controlled, and plenty of storage to carry what we may need. This truck was designed and built by General Truck Body. We are very excited to have this piece of equipment added to our fleet.
